Support The Five Day Weekend by staying with Bear Foot Mountain Properties in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
The major goal of the Five Day Weekend is simple: We want to reverse the U.S. workweek so that Americans clock in for two good days of work, followed by five well-earned days off.
Why? Because overwork has become a major problem for Americans, and it's getting worse by the year. The two-day weekend was created in 1930, and despite decades of unparalleled technology growth, our people are actually working more and more each year.
Check out the stats:
- Americans wasted more than 570 million vacation days in 2006(1)
- Unlike 96 other countries, the U.S. has no law governing vacations
- U.S. workers receive an average of 14 vacation days but only use 10 a year(1)
- By comparison, French workers receive 39 vacation days, and Germans get 27(1)
- Americans have increasingly worked more days a year since World War II(2)
- A nine-year university study recently found that not taking vacation can increase the chance of heart attack or coronary disease.(3)
- In 2006, members of the U.S. Congress clocked 104 days in session – which means they worked exactly two days a week.(4)
We want to stop this trend and begin to reverse it. So we're aiming high and going for a Five Day Weekend.

Pigeon Forge Museums
Among our dozens of wonderful attractions are our many fascinating museums. You and your kids will want to visit museums like the Dinosaur Walk Museum, Carbo's Police Museum, the Smoky Mountain Car Museum, the Veteran's Memorial Museum, the Elvis Museum, and the amazing Wonderworks. Museums like these truly make learning fun.
To discuss a few...
The Smoky Mountain Car Museum has been open since 1956. Check out cars owned by celebrities, such as Elvis Presley's Mercedes Benz, and cars used in movies, such as James Bond's Aston Martin from Goldfinger and Thunderball. Take a trip into the past and see cars that ran on steam. There are even electric cars to view. Vehicles are part of our evryday life so we take them for granted. Learn about what all goes into them at the Smoky Mountain Car Museum.
The Dinosuar Walk Museum is not your everyday fossil museum. Inside you will find actual life-sized sculptures of the beasts that once ruled the earth. There are replicas of everything from the huge T-rex to the little Microraptor. After hanging out with the dinosaurs, come play at the Fossil Dig and watch movies that bring the dinosaurs to life. Fun and educational for everyone.
Wonderworks, Tennessee's only upside down attraction, bills itself as an amusement park for the mind. With over 150 different exhibits in 55,000 square-feet, they are certainly that. There are seven different areas to go through. Start out in the Disaster Zone where you can experience what a 5.3 earthquake feels like . From there, move into their Challenge Zone. Here you test your physical strength with rock climbing, and their upside down bicycle, as well as your psychological endurance. Can you hold still while 3,500 sharp nails rise beneath you on their bed of nails? Their Space Zone is set up beautifully! Check out an animated, educational video in 3D. Try your hand at landing the Discovery Space Shuttle. The Sound and Light Zone is so much fun! Sit in a dark, sound-proof booth and let your sense of hearing work at its best. Walk across a floor with images that react to your steps. Definitely spend some time at their Recollections wall where you can see what your shadow looks like, after you've walked away from it. After so much, you wouldn't think it could get any better, but you would be surprised. In the Control Room you can design your own virtual roller coaster...and then ride it! Put as many loops, spins, spirals, as you can stomach and then hop in the simulator booth to experience it. Also in the Control Room, is a separate Bubble Room where you can make bubbles of all shapes and sizes, including ones you can fit inside of. The Far Out Illusion Gallery will amaze you. Using perception and perspective, your mind views the art in a whole different way. The 10,000 square-foot Lazer Tag and arcade area is sure to keep you busy for quite a while. With dozens of games and a huge prize redemption counter, your sure to have a fun time. On the way out, head through the gift shop and pick up a souvenir to remember your time in the upside down laboratory in Tennessee. Make sure to reserve your tickets for the Wonderworks dinner show, "Hoot & Holler". Their excellent show and great food make for a fun-filled evening to match the day at Wonderworks.
After your days filled with adventure an your mind well exercised, you'll want to return to your Bear Foot Mountain cabin rental for a long nap or an evening with the family. Catch a quick forty winks in your large, comfortable bed or relax in your hot tub. Then have a fun evening relaxing in your wonderful, spacious Bear Foot Mountain vacation rental, popping popcorn, watching movies or admiring the gorgeous late night view from your porch.

Pigeon Forge's Best Attractions
Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg boast so many different kinds of attractions and shows that it's difficult to call any of them the "best." However, certain shows and activities do stand out as reliable favorites.
One of the most famous musicians to come out of the area is, of course, Dolly Parton and she has certainly given back to the community with fun venues for people of all ages. Spend the warm days at Dollywood's Splash Country. They have over two dozen water slides and thrill rides to get your heart racing. Then cool and calm yourself in the Lazy River or in the new Cascades area - an 8,000 square-foot lagoon-style pool with gorgeous grottos built into to compliment the landscape. There are many fun & interactive kids areas so everyone is sure to have a good time.
The Dollywood Theme Park is another wonderful place for family-oriented fun. Divided into eight themed sections, there is sure to be something to catch everyone's interest. You could start with one of over a dozen different musical shows to see including bluegrass, oldies, gospel, old country and new country. They also have the "Wings of America: Birds of Prey" show. Get up-close and personal with a varity of birds of prey from hawks and owls to the majestic bald eagle. Don't forget the magic show! The magicians will amaze you with tricks and illusions that will keep you guessing. But if you want to learn the hows, just step into the Magic Shop where you can learn the "tricks" of the trade.
Speaking of shopping, Dollywood boasts over 40 themed shops to browse through. Everything a shopper could want can be found. There are shops for souvenirs, speciality clothing, home furnishings, art, musical instruments, and many craft and trade stores. Craftsmen's Valley offers the opportunity to see many local tradesmen and women as they work. Watch as the glassblower forms a glass rose or as the blacksmith makes intricate iron designs.
After all that shopping you're bound to get hungry. However, hunger can't last for long at Dollywood. Have a seat at one of the great restraunts and enjoy some traditional southern cooking. Or grab some of the finest corndogs and potato twirls in town. There are plenty of places through out the park to indulge even the pickiest of eaters. Of course, don't forget dessert! Check out the Sweet Shoppe or the Village Ice Creamery for a tasty treat.
Of course, the main attractions at Dollywood are the rides. There are plenty of coasters for the thrill seekers, including the wooden coaster Thunderhead which can reach speeds up to 55 mph and the Tennessee Tornado which can hit 70 mph and features a triple spiral loop and 128 foot drop. Dollywood is also home to the new Mystery Mine, a high-thrill coaster that includes a 95 degree, 85 foot vertical drop into darkness. And those are just a few.
If you don't mind getting wet, take a trip down Daredevil Falls, the Smoky Mountain River Rampage, or on the Blazing Fury. They're sure to cool you down on the hot days. Also, head out to Beaver Creek where the kids can wade around and soak up good times. There are multiple interactive areas for the kids with dozens of different rides.
At the end of the day, head out to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, a dinner and show featuring over 30 horses and performers, pigs, buffalo and, of course, those famous racing ostriches. The four-course feast starts with a mouth-watering soup and biscuit, followed by a whole rotisserie chicken, a barbeque pork loin, corn on the cob, and an herb basted potato. Then enjoy Dixie's own speciality desert, a warm apple turnover. The show plays out as a friendly rivalry between the North and the South. With lots of audience participation, it is you who decides the winner. With a great show and great food, Dolly has no problem offering her guarantee that the Dixie Stampede is the most fun place to eat in the Smokies.
One of the most awarded shows in the area has to be the two-hour-show at Country Tonite. With one of the bests productions and beautiful theaters in the Smokies, the show is sure to impress. There is lots of singing, dancing, and comedy to keep you clapping and laughing through out the night. Their patriotic finale will definitely move you to your feet. The cast includes some of the most talented entertainers in the area and they'll gladly come out and chat with you after the show. A great show for the whole family!
Magic lovers will enjoy the new Magic Beyond Belief feautring the very talented Terry Evanswood. His illusions, tricks, and sleight of hand earned him one of the coveted Merlin Awards. The show features daring escapes and transformations that include many animals. Joining his animal crew this year, will be a 400 pound Royal White Tiger. One of the best magic shops in town can be found at Magic Beyond Belief and they can teach you what you want to know.
Taking in so much entertainment can be overwhelming. Fortunately, the time you spend relaxing in your inviting, beautiful Bear Foot cabin should help you unwind. With amazing views and the perfect location (only four miles from the Dollywood entrance and six miles to the Parkway) your cabin is sure to become your favorite attraction. The 17th Annual Patriot Festival is July 4th at Patriot Park in the heart of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Festivities get started at 1:00 p.m. with a Tribute to Veterans followed by a concert featuring the Pigeon Forge Chorus. Musical performers scheduled to appear in this year's Patriot Festival include Bowling for Soup, a Rock 'n Roll group with nine #1 albums.

Shortly after the tour ended, Locke released her Curb Records debut album "One Love," which features the #1 Billboard Single Sales hit "8th World Wonder."
The Starjam celebration of will also include the unique musical stylings of Quietdrive. Quietdrive's roots can be traced back to Minneapolis in late 2003 after lead singer Kevin Truckenmiller posted a few MP3's on a local music site.Brandon Lanier (Drums) who had been playing with Droo Hastings (Bass) and Justin Bonhiver (Guitar) since grade school, heard the tracks and called. The group was completed when Truckenmiller brought in a former college classmate Matt Kirby (Guitar/Vocals). As Kirby tells it, he and Kevin spent the majority of their school years writing songs. With lineup in tact, the quintet spent the next year and a half sharpening their sound and playing in hole-in-the-walls that would have them. A couple gigs with The Donna's and a stint on the Warped Tour was followed by a head-turning demo and deal with Epic Records!
After the performances, the Pigeon Forge night sky will come to life with a fantastic fireworks display! The fireworks usually start at 9:30-9:45 p.m., so keep your eyes on the skies, you won't want to miss this display!
Patriot Festival activities are free and food vendors will be on site. Patriot Park is located on Old Mill Street at traffic light number 7 behind the historic Old Mill.
